United Parish of Upper Nidderdale

Middlesmoor United Service

A wonderful United Service was held at St Chad's Middlesmoor on 20th October 2013. The readings were related to Jesus telling the disciples to let their nets down so that they would catch a great haul of fish. The congregation were asked to write prayers on some paper fish and then invited to drop their prayers into the net. The name Faith was chosen because although we desire most to be on calm waters we know that when we get battered by the trials of life 'faith' is the best thing to hold on to. The church was filled, just like the nets in fact.

Ramsgill Quiet Day

The Parish Quiet Day on 20th October 2013 at St Mary the Virgin, Ramsgill had the theme of 'Playing with Prayer' and it explored many different styles of prayer, some quiet and meditative, some more tactile, some that involved walking around but all were ways of engaging with prayer. It was a wet and miserable day but we were still blessed with over 20 people joining us for our Quiet Day which ended with a Celtic Eucharist.

Wilsill Cafe Church

On 12th October 2013 St Michael and All Angels, Wilsill had their first Cafe Church. The theme for the Cafe Church was, 'Jesus says, 'I am the Good Shepherd.' Over 40 people joined us, not quite sure what to expect I'm sure. The afternoon was set so that people would arrive at 2pm and have refreshments and cakes / biscuits whilst Richard and Linsay entertained us with their live music. The guests were invited to try the 'Good Sheperd Quiz' or try ther hand at making some sheep with air dried clay. From 2:30pm Martin Imeson regaled us with 'Tales from the Dales,' for half an hour. His stories kept us all entertained and half an hour felt like ten minutes. From 3pm the answers to the quiz were given and Richard and Linsay with the help of their son entertained us with a drama sketch based on the Good Shepherd. This was all followed by a final act of worship and more tea and cake. The next Cafe Church at Wilsill will be held on 8th February 2014, the theme will be the 'Parable of the Lost Sheep' and the guest speaker will be Bishop James Bell (Bishop of Knaresborough). Please join us.

Wilsill Christingle 2013

On December 1st 2013 our Lay Reader, Celia Morris conducted a wonderful, atmospheric Christingle service at St Michael and All Angels, Wilsill. 40 people from three weeks old to... well, lets just say mature in their years joined in the celebration of Christingle and raised money for the Children's Society whilst doing so. A wonderful way to start the Advent season as we prepare for Christmas.

St Cuthbert's Bells and Tower

Have you ever wondered what it looks like in the Bell Tower of St Cuthbert's? or what the clock mechanism looks like? or what the view is like from on the tower? Well here are a few snaps that I took which I hope you will enjoy.

First you climb up a narrow, stone, spiral staircase into the Bell Ringing room.

Up another big staircase into a room with pulleys all around and above you. This is where the clock mechanism is kept, a fantastic piece of equipment.

Up another flight of stairs and pass by the bells.

through a narrow hatch with a really heavy lid and onto the Tower where the views that meet you are astounding!
