St Michael and All Angels, Wilsill

Prayer Cycle

Inspired by the Tour de France, St Michael and All Angels have come up with a fabulously topical prayer station. Visitors and parishioners are encouraged to write a prayer on a post it note and stick it to this wooden cut-out. A great idea, well done Wilsill! Congratulations to the Confirmation Class of 2014

On Easter Day 2014 the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds was dissolved and the new Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales came into being. On Sunday, May 4th at St Cuthbert's Church, the United Parish of Upper Nidderdale became the first parish in the new episcopal area of Ripon to have a Confirmation Service. Pictured left to right are:

Anna Beever, Suzann Bealing (affirming her baptismal faith), Helene Bealing, Sophie Beever, The Right Reverend James Bell (Bishop for the area of Ripon), Sue Beever, Hugh Beever, Richard Pooley and Father Darryl Hall.

Another candidate, Mrs Margaret Burrells who was prepared for Confirmation with the other candidates was confirmed at a later date in St Cuthbert's Church. Father Darryl, Reverend Eileen McLean and Mrs Judy Buller led the Confirmation Classes in the first few months of 2014. A quote from the candidates stated it was, "A real sense of occasion, yet Bishop James made it an intimate and personal experience for each one of us. It was wonderfully uplifting and affirming to see so many friends and neighbours in the congregation, and we truly felt part of a strong and vibrant Christian community. Our thanks to Darryl and everyone involved in making it such a memorable and experience."

The Nidderdale Lambing Service at St Chad's 2014

One of the highest churches (geographically) in England is St Chad's church in Middlesmoor with its beautiful views down Nidderdale in North Yorkshire.  Congregations from both the Anglican church itself and the Methodist church joined together on Sunday May 18th for their first ever ecumenical Lambing Festival. Pictured is Vicar, Revd Darryl Hall, who jointly led the service with the Reverend Nigel Waterfield, the local Methodist Superintendent.

The two denominations came together in the upper dale in the autumn of 2013. Darryl who was  inducted as the new Vicar of Upper Nidderdale last June said, “ The delightful sounds of St Chad's church bells rang out through the valley to call people to worship, the church was filled with beautiful hymns and the sights and sounds of nature blessed us in abundance. Winged creatures literally swooped in our act of worship as three beautiful swallows, nesting in the porch, found their way into the church.

“Three young lambs were brought in by the children for a blessing before moving out into the churchyard for a blessing on all the lambs, livestock and our farming communities of the dales.”

The United Parish of Upper Nidderdale is proud to be a Mission Shaped Parish with three people training on the Mission Shaped Ministry Course: Sue Beever, Linsay Pooley & Peter Wright.
